I’ve finally made the Top 40 on Google, 39 to be exact. Try it for yourself, search for Steve Held on Google.com After a while there I thought I’d never make that list, but I did and it is exciting~!.
I haven’t done much since my first post but figured I’d show my progress on this drawing anyway.

I also wanted to state something that has been wearing me down. I take a lot of slack from friends, family, and other people about being an art major. “What are you going to do with an art major?” “Isn’t that just silly to spend all that money at college to draw?” While people think this I say to them the same thing. “What are you going to do with an English major?” etc….
You need to open your eyes to the world. Art represents a rich heritage and is a unique way to know about the world and its cultures. When exploring the past or even present, one looks towards art. Art is responsible for shaping our lives. Turn on the television, stroll down a supermarket aisle, watch a movie– and the one thing always present is art. We read, write and do arithmetic nearly every day, but we see art all the time. Art is part of our ceremonies, celebrations, and worship. Art is basic to our lives.
Art majors are well rounded individuals unique to this world. We don’t worry about making major bucks because that’s not what is important in the world. It is not an easy college degree either, we don’t spend our days drawing. We’re in literature classes, history classes, and many other classes, for an artist isn’t complete without knowledge of the world. I say to all those people who get engineering degrees–you are taking the easy road to life because you fail to see the point of life itself. I too can design bridges and sculpt roads, however I’m more inclined to do so aethetically better then just a concret slab across a serene river. Remember Leonardo Da Vinci, wasn’t just an artist but an inventor way ahead of his time. Disregard art and you hender our future.
My mom took this picture while I was drawing a poster for my cousin, Marc. He asked me a while back to do a Black Crowe drawing for him and I finally have the time to draw one. I thought I’d make it my post so you can see my progress.
For those of you unfamiliar with my cousin Marc, he was in a car accident eight years ago which left him nearly paralyzed. He is in a wheel chair for life but can manage to walk short distances. When he was younger he played the violin and used to call me Baby Steven. He was in a coma for 2 years before coming out of it right before they nearly pulled the plug on him. He still has a quick wit and is a riot when taken into a mall because he will hoot and holler at all the girls. Anyway, he asked me to draw him a Black Crowe piece because that is his ultimate favorite band.
Being somewhat of an artist I grew up being taught that yellow was the opposite of violet and red that of green. I remember being frustrated that when mixing these colors I didn’t always get a neutral gray but more often then not I mixed up the most obnoxious looking brown color. Until one day I was searching on the internet and low and behold I found out that The color wheel is wrong. Here’s what it should be instead of the one used today.

In 1927 the world population was 2 billion. As we enter the third millennium, the planet’s population has swelled to 6 billion – less than a lifetime to arrive at 6 billion. That’s 6,000,000,000 in case you can’t get the picture with words. To realize this astounding number even more, why not contribute to it?
